Letter
Did you receive a letter from the NE Dept of Revenue or other state tax department where you live, titled 1099-G? If so, you’re not alone.

Why Did I Receive This Letter?
Last year you received a state income tax refund and had itemized deductions.

What Should I Do With It?
Keep it with your other tax documents. Bring it to the tax appointment. But also know that our office is already tracking this information for you.

Why Does the Letter Say I’m Going to Pay a Penalty?
It is just a warning that you should claim it as income on this year’s Federal taxes. You’re not going to pay a penalty or receive a fine.

If you itemized your federal tax deductions last year, using the state income tax method, you will claim last year’s state tax refund as income on your tax return this year. This is a normal, expected item.
